RELIEF SECRETARIAT

There are three Units under the Relief Secretariat namely:

  • The Relief Ministry
  • Centre for Victims of Domestic Violence and the Homeless
  • Centre for the Aged

Relief Ministry

The Relief Ministry identifies specific needs of Christians, victims of floods, war, etc. and attends to them. It liaises with all the other Secretariats to find out a workable means of offering effective relief services to Christians/Churches

Centre for Victims of Domestic Violence and the Homeless (CVDVH)

The Centre for Victims of Domestic Violence and the Homeless (CVDVH) focuses on victims of domestic violence and the homeless with the passion of helping to rehabilitate them. This is due to the fact that at least one in every three women has been beaten, coerced into sex or otherwise abused during her lifetime around the world. These women are victims most of whom have no voice, help or idea how to deal with the situation. There is an estimated range from 960,000 incidents of violence against a current or former spouse, boyfriend, or girlfriend per year to three million women who are physically abused by their husband or boyfriend per year.

Operations of CVDVH
CVDVH offer opportunity to victims of Domestic Violence (DV) and the homeless to meet with key – staff one-on-one basis to discuss issues such as how to move-on, benefits, life at the CVDVH, career options and anything that will help them deal with their situation for a new beginning. CVDVH also work together with the victims of DV and the homeless on preparing them for independent living.

CVDVH makes all efforts to prevent discrimination or unfair treatment against users of our service, regardless of race, gender, religion, sexuality, age, disability or offending background. Victims of DV with desperate situation and single homeless who must be aged 18 or over will be provided with accommodation during the rehabilitation process. Those to be provided with accommodation could apply directly or through referring agencies.

CVDVH is committed to the rehabilitation of all individuals accepted into both residential and non-residential status. CVDVH also ensure excellent organisational and interpersonal skills and maintain sound working relationship with all establishments and institutions that share similar vision.

Finances of CVDVH

  1. CVDVH will seek funds from Churches, financial institutions, benevolent organisations and individuals with passion for the rehabilitation of victims of DV and the homeless.
  2. Those who will be accepted in residence will pay a monthly affordable token fee as their commitment toward their rehabilitation.
  3. Those who are not able to pay due to genuine reasons may opt to work for some hours in CVDVH and pay out of their earnings.
  4. An annual financial statement on all contributions will be sent to all donors and funding agencies / organisations.
  5. An annual edited financial report will be sent to all donors and funding agencies / organisations.

CVDVH will accept suggestions and contributions from donors and funding agencies / organisations. It will also accept suggestions and contributions from individuals and organisation with passion for the rehabilitation of victims of DV and the homeless. Individuals with requisite qualification in counselling especially Christians with experience in social and domestic / family counselling will be accepted to do voluntary work. Details and information about donors and funding agencies / organisations will be held in confidence.

 

The Centre For the Aged (CFA)

This is a haven for lonely older persons who are 60 years old and above, and in need of socialization, friendship, love and compassion. The center entertains the older people for the day so that they can make friends and socialize with other people.

We believe in caring for the aged by providing them with recreational activities, opportunities for socialization and help maintain their relationship with God. We seek to provide a clean and cheerful environment with opportunities for spiritual enhancement and counselling. Moreover all the needy aged would have some of their needs met.

COC helps the aged find meaning to their lives and put a smile on their faces.

Programme activities include:

  1. Devotion

  2. Exercise

  3. Games

  4. Bible Study and Prayer time

  5. Singspirations

  6. Listening to inspirational songs and messages

  7. Practicing and learning skills like beading, croching, knitting etc.

  8. Snacks and meals for the day

Admittance of the aged into the centre is dependent on the fulfillment of some medical clearance . The medical requirements are:

  • Chest x-ray results/report

  • Medical condition report

  • Medicines being taken (medication).
